Alphys Undertale Costume DIY Guide for Cosplay and Halloween

Alphys Costume: DIY Guide

Alphys is one of the main characters in Undertale, a role playing video game created in 2015. She is a shy reptilian monster with a nerdy- personality. She has a fondness for humans and often grows crushes on some of the other characters, but sadly, communicating your feelings isn’t always easy as a monster.

She is filled with insecurities even though she’s a brain box, and sports a white lab coat over yellow scales and is always seen in her signature round glasses.

This look can be a tricky one to pull off, but with a little patience and some crafty handwork, you can transform into Alphys with our DIY costume guide!

Alphys Costume Ideas

Hair:

It’s not easy to replicate the exact look of Alphys without creating headpiece to get that dinosaur look. If full on foam crafting isn’t up your ally, the best way to get around this is to get yourself a yellow wig and style it in a way that looks similar to Alphys’ spikes. People will be able to know who you are when the costume comes together so as long as the hair is yellow, that’s all that really matters here. You can also use wash out dye to create semi-permanent yellow for your own locks if you prefer – this works well if you’re already fair haired.

Face:

Alphys is entirely yellow, so your best bet here is to follow suit with some yellow face and body paint. This means the entirety of your face, and if you want to go all out, don’t be afraid to paint the neck, chest, arms and legs too, for an overall yellow, Alphys glow!

Alphys Makeup Tutorial:

Body:

Alongside the yellow body paint, you’re going to need some clothes for this costume. Luckily it’s something that every fancy dress store will have, a lab coat. Simple and white and something you can easily turn into something else at a later date, it’s a purchase you won’t regret.

Feet:

Alphys doesn’t wear shoes, so for this we suggest either painting those feet yellow to match the rest of your costume and wearing some yellow or white sandals. Or, the more popular choice, invest in some plush animal paw slippers. You can get dinosaur-style slippers in a variety of retailers both online and in a store. These really do make the outfit come together!

Accessories:

Alphys wouldn’t be Alphys without her specs. Luckily they are pretty standard, so get yourself a pair that are black, big and round and viola your outfit is complete! Oh, except for one thing…her tail! You can purchase plush dinosaur tails online but you can also make one really easily.

Start with two pieces of yellow felt, or any fabric you prefer, each cut to the size and style you want the tail to be. Now get sowing those pieces together! However, before you seal the two sides, stuff the tail with a filler, like cotton wool, for a 3D effect. For an extra bit of detail, you can use black felt to create spikes for the top of the tail. Attach this to the back of your lap coat and you will complete your Alphys costume.

About Alphys

Quotes:

A long time ago, I made a robot named Mettaton. Originally I built him to be an entertainment robot. Anyway, recently I decided to make him more useful. You know, just some practical adjustments. Like, um… Anti… Anti-human combat features?
