Dr. Horrible Costume: DIY Guide
Dr. Horrible wants more than anything to be a terrific super-villain. Unfortunately, on the web miniseries Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog, things don’t exactly go according to plan. In fact, poor ol’ Dr. Horrible can’t even catch a break when he falls head-over-heels for a beautiful do-gooder, so he’s always blogging while listening to synth music at home. He tries to balance his desire for evil with a desire for romance, which needless to say, makes his life a bit complicated.

How to Dress Like Dr. Horrible
Dr. Horrible has messy brown hair like every evil genius should. To replicate this look, you need to either mess up your own hair a bit by teasing it with a few drops of liquid hair gel and a comb, or you can purchase a brown mad scientist wig from any Halloween store or online retail website.
To nail the mad scientist look, you will need a white lab coat. Buttoned at the front, it makes Dr. Horrible look like a creepy psychiatrist who you might find in the dark corridor of a spooky castle somewhere! Search online through various costume and retail websites for a decent lab coat. Medical supply warehouses also carry a variety of lab coat styles.
While you’re at it, pick up a pair of khaki scrub pants to wear underneath. You can buy these from the same locations as most lab coats.
No Dr. Horrible costume would be complete without a pair of white rubber boots, old-fashioned black lab goggles, silver welding gloves and a doctor’s patch to sew on the front of your lab coat!
You can purchase white rubber boots either online through a retail clothing website, or locally from a shoe store.
Dr. Horrible wears similar goggles to the ones the Minions on ‘Despicable Me’ with thick rims around the lenses. You can buy goggles online from websites like Amazon or Etsy, or from a Halloween store or laboratory supply store.
For the silver gloves, you can either buy welding gloves online from a retail website or construction website, or you can improvise with a pair of gray latex rubber gloves instead.
Don’t forget the doctor symbol patch! This symbol is called the “Rod of Aesculapius” and has been used in the medical profession for ages, making it fairly simple to locate a sew-on or iron-on patch for your costume’s lab coat. Check online through clothing and accessory websites like Amazon, Etsy or eBay to find one you like.
About Dr. Horrible
And by the way it’s not about making money, it’s about taking money. Destroying the status quo because the status is not quo. The world is a mess and I just need to rule it.
