How to Dress Like Space Dandy
Hair:
Dandy has jet-black hair with a prominent quiff. if you don’t have natural black locks, some wash out dye can help. Then smack on generous helping of strong-hold hair gel to get that quiff styled-Dandy style! His hair is his most striking feature so be sure to get this one as close as you can. There are wigs available for purchase if your locks aren’t quite long enough. Rock and Roll style wigs work perfectly!
Face:
Don’t worry if you don’t have natural sideburns… stick on sideburns will do just fine. His face is quite angular so you could even add some makeup to contour your jawline, but the main feature you’ll need make-up wise, is that famous X across his chin. Get yourself an eyeliner pencil, or face paint marker, and get drawing!
Clothes:
Dandy sports a deep red t-shirt, which is pretty easy to get your hands on. Over that he wears a blue and white letterman varsity jacket. You can buy almost the exact one from online retailers but if you want to try make this at home, start with a blue bomber jacket and some scrap white fabric.
Cut white stripes for the arms and collar and get sowing (or gluing if you wish). Don’t forget the staple of the jacket-the star! A big yellow one for the back and a smaller one for the front left chest. (There’s the letter D inside this star if you want it to match perfectly.) His trousers are pretty easy to replicate, just make sure they are blue.
Boots:
You can get exact replicas of Dandy’s boots from cosplay websites, but if you want to try to make these, there are a few ways. You are best off starting with some brown Chelsea-style boots that go just over the ankle.
Dandy’s have a piece of fabric over the top so hunting for the perfect style might take a little bit of time, but you can always add the piece of fabric if you’re crafty. Then some silver shoe covers are needed for the sole and lip over the toes. If you’re not familiar with shoe covers, do some research withYouTube tutorials, or you can get some silver shoe/fabric paint and simply paint the boots to match the style the best you can.
Accessories:
Dandy sports a black belt with a golden, triangular button. In order to replicate this you can make a triangle shape from strong cardboard and gold paint. For an extra touch add two circles, one at either side of the triangle. On his left wrist he wears a gold bracelet with a black center which you can make with a gold bangle and a black marker. Dandy also wears a talisman that reads “Narita’” in Japanese characters. Again, a marker will do the trick!
To complete the look, remember that when posing for pictures to do it in true Dandy style! Slouching confidently, with your hands in your pockets!
