How to Dress Like Scarlet Witch from the Avengers
Hair:
Scarlet Witch has long auburn hair often worn down. If you have long hair already, just dye it auburn. If you don’t you can find a long auburn wig online or at a costume shop.
Makeup:
Scarlet Witch wears black and grey smokey eyes which set off her glowing red eyes perfectly when she’s really riled up. This look gives her the goth/ witchy look that goes with her persona. To accomplish this:
1) Eyes:
a) Black Eyeliner: Just take any black pencil eyeliner (online, drug store, or costume shop) and draw a rough line around the top and bottom lash lines. This doesn’t have to be straight or perfect by any means as you’re going to smoke it out. Then, if you don’t have watery or sensitive eyes, line your upper and lower water lines with the same black liner. This will eliminate any skin color between the eye and the liner and look more cohesive.
b) Smoke with grey eyeshadow: You can use a domed fluffy blending eye brush (drug store or online) and pick up a little bit of grey eyeshadow (online or drug store) and run it over the top of the liner, blending both all over the top lid. Make sure to do the same to the lower lash line, but thinner, so that it matches the lid.
c) Soften edges: Then take a similar domed blending eye brush, or thoroughly clean off the one you used in the previous step with a makeup wipe (online, drug store, or grocery store) and use a skin- colored eyeshadow (online or drug store) to go around the edges of the grey color to soften the harsh lines and create some space of skin between the eyelid and the eyebrow.
d) Clean up: Clean up any fallout from the dark eyeshadow from under your eyes and on your cheeks with a makeup wipe or a makeup remover on a cotton pad (online, drugstore, or grocery store).
2) Everything but the lips: Then do your base, your face, and your brows however you normally do. I suggest you do these after the eyes so that you don’t ruin your foundation with any fallout from the dark eye makeup.
3) Lips: Usually when you have a bold eye look like this one you want to play down the lips, but Scarlet Witch is the kind of woman that goes all in. Get a metallic cherry red lipstick (online or at a drug store)to make your pout pop. Red is one of those colors that if it gets outside the lines, you start to look like a hot mess very quickly, so I say use a liquid lipstick because once it dries down, it won’t budge or smudge, and you shouldn’t have to touch it up. Scarlet Witch is busy saving the world, not fixing her lipstick.
Dress:
This is the simple part. Any black mini dress will do. You can find one online, at any major retailer, or a thrift store. Most everyone has a little black dress.
Jacket:
You will need a red leather or pleather biker jacket. In different costumes she wears different ones, but they are all red leather/ pleather and most are in the biker jacket style (with the exception of her famous long coat). You can find one online, at any major retailer, at a costume shop, or at a thrift store.
Jewelry and Gloves:
Scarlet Witch often wears 2 necklaces, one short and one long. You can use any necklaces that you have that fit this description, or you can find some online, at any major retailer, or at a thrift shop.
Because she likes to layer jewelry, she often wears 2 bracelets per wrist as well. You can use any small, pliant bracelets that you have, or you can get them at any major retailer, online, or at a thrift store.
She also wears either red leather/pleather fingerless gloves or, as in this costume, black leather wrist- warmers with a zipper closure. You can find either of these online, at any major retailer, or at a thrift store.
Socks and Boots:
Scarlet Witch is always ready for battle, and this means that she only ever wears black leather/ pleather combat boots. They can be tall or short, but if they are short, use knee- high black opaque socks to give the same effect of a tall combat boot, as she does in this particular outfit. You can find the boots and the socks online, at any major retailer, or at a thrift store.
Now, it’s time to get off your ass and play some mind games. Sometimes it’s hard, but sooner or later every man shows himself. Everyone’s afraid of something.
