How to Dress Like Pennywise the Clown from ‘It’ 2017
Pennywise has bright reddish-orange tufts of hair that stick out all over his head, almost like he’s on fire. A wig is a great way to get this iconic style without damaging or dying your own hair. Use hairspray to master the look of his hair in whatever shape you want.
One of the creepiest things about clowns is that you never know who or what they are under all that paint! To get Pennywise’s frightening makeup, cover your own face in white Halloween paint or Goth foundation, and use red lipstick to paint your nose and lips bright cherry red.
Don’t forget, this killer clown has lines of red makeup stretching from the corners of his eyes back down to his mouth, and black eyeliner around his eyes.
Check out this tutorial to learn how to do Pennywise-style clown makeup:
Pennywise wears a huge white ruffled collar around his neck, followed by a striped suit, big goofy shoes and white gloves described in the book as “resembling Micky Mouse’s”. You can either buy a clown suit or make your own.
Pennywise lives in the sewers (gross!) so if you want to make your costume really genuine, add some greenish-brown slime to the suit using more makeup. To get larger shoes, you can add on to a pair of old shoes or even buy a pair of big clown shoes at a party store.
If you’ve seen the film or the trailer, you might recall that Pennywise always offers his victims a bright red balloon. Pick up a package of balloons at your local dollar store and blow a few up with helium, tying strings to them so you’ll “float too” at your next big costume party or convention!
Pennywise also has very sharp teeth, which you can easily do by using a set of plastic Halloween vampire fangs, or even by creating your own fake teeth with Styrofoam or recycled plastic.
With a costume like this, you’ll look like you’ve stepped right out of the silver screen and thrill your friends and family. Don’t forget to practice your perfect boogeyman clown voice and that bone-chilling laugh!
