Squints Costume: DIY Guide
In the classic coming-of-age film ‘The Sandlot’, Michael “Squints” Palledorous is a nerdy, precocious kid nicknamed for his thick black framed glasses that he is never seen without. Squints is often seen as the jester of his rag-tag team of friends, from kissing Wendy Peffercorn after faking a pool accident to telling the urban legend of “the Beast” (passed down from his police officer grandfather), which provides lots of summer mishaps and entertainment. If you’re looking for a unique and fun costume for your next cosplay convention, why not go with a Squints one to bring a bit of the 1950’s to your upcoming event?

How to Dress Like Squints from ‘The Sandlot’
Squints has dark brown hair but its often covered by a black baseball cap he always wears. Squints has a habit of always wearing the cap backwards, just one of his many lovable quirks.
Search for a plain black cap from any online retail store and tuck your hair up underneath. Squints’ cap has an elastic running through the bottom hem that keeps stray strands of his hair from escaping.
Squints has no real significant outfit throughout the film, but one thing stands out about all his clothes – he dresses just like any 1950’s kid would, opting for t-shirts with muted colors, casual shorts and pants and ratty old sneakers perfect for a good ol’ fashioned game of baseball.
Two of the outfits Squints wears in the film include his dark denim jeans, white t-shirt and oversized beige cotton shirt unbuttoned at the front, and of course his black swim trunks with a light blue stripe on the front that he wears in the infamous Wendy Peffercorn scene of the film.
You can find these items from retail clothing websites, thrift stores and vintage costume shops. For the sneakers, dig out your favorite old well-worn pair from your closet, or purchase them online.
A squints costume simply wouldn’t be complete without his thick black square frame glasses. He wears them everywhere, even in the local swimming pool!
For Squints’ glasses, you can either wear your own prescription glasses or use a pair of costume glasses. Check out what’s available from online costume websites, retail websites and Halloween stores for a great pair to accent your costume.
