How to Dress Like Bob Ross for Cosplay & Halloween
Fro:
Bob Ross’s appearance is as memorable as his videos. He has wild curly brown hair, thick eyebrows and a grayish-brown beard, giving him an almost bohemian hippie look. To nail down this look for your own costume, you can get your own natural hair styled with a perm to get the curly appearance, or you can wear a curly-haired brown wig.
Use hairspray to add extra volume. Use a brown eyebrow pencil to create Bob’s bushy-browed look, and purchase a fake brown beard online from a costume website or party store to finish off the facial hair.
Outfit:
Bob wears no specific outfit, but he often dresses simply with a pair of dark jeans and a long-sleeved shirt in pastel colors such as powder-blue or beige. You can get these clothing supplies from any retail website or shopping mall. Iron the shirt before wearing it to create a sharper look to your outfit.
Bob Ross usually wears simple denim pants with no distinct pattern and often has a plain belt holding them up. You can purchase belts from any accessories website or mall, or you can browse around thrift stores to see what’s available.
Accessories:
Pick up a pair of basic brown loafers to wear from any shoe store or retail website, and to complete your Bob Ross costume, go one step further by bringing an artist’s palette, a bag of paint bottles, a paint brush and a large canvas. You can order these items online from most retail websites or craft supply shops.
To add some more authenticity, paint your own watercolor landscape on the canvas so it looks just like one of Bob Ross’s works! You can also order a pre-printed canvas with a painting already on it if you prefer.
Paint It Live:
If you’re heading to a cosplay convention, do a demonstration for your fellow cosplayers! If you’re art-savvy, get out a canvas and wooden art easel and do an in-person presentation of some of Bob Ross’s best painting techniques to bring some realistic charm to your event.
You can purchase easels from most craft shops, home furnishing shops and retail websites, or if you’d rather just carry the canvas in your hands, you can do that instead.
