How to Dress Like Harry Potter
Hair:
Harry has shaggy dark brown hair in a style similar to a long bowl cut. To get a similar look for your costume, you can dye and style your own hair with gel, or wear a dark brown wig. Check out online costume websites and local Halloween stores for a wig, and style it to your preferences.
Scar:
When Voldemort attacked Harry Potter as a baby, he was left with a small but noticeable lightning rod-shaped scar on his forehead. You can use a Halloween makeup crayon or a cosmetic eyebrow pencil to draw this on. Search for waterproof makeup if possible so it doesn’t smudge when you’re at your convention or party.
Outfit:
Harry wears the same school uniform as all his fellow students in the Gryffindor House at Hogwarts. The uniform consists of a pair of thick gray dress pants, a white dress shirt, a red-and-yellow necktie, a darker gray cable-knit sweater with red and yellow accent stripes, black shoes and of course the long black hooded cloak he wears during outings off school grounds. The cloak is lined with red fabric and bears the school crest.
Accessories:
To add the last bit of magic to your Harry Potter costume, you’ll need a pair of his iconic round-framed glasses as well as a wand.
For an extra spark of authenticity, purchase or sew a stuffed toy snowy owl to carry with you. Harry’s beloved pet is given to him just before his first year at Hogwarts. Her name is Hedwig and Harry never goes anywhere without her!
