How to Dress Like Hermione Granger
Hair:
Hermione’s hair is often the most recognizable feature she possesses. She’s a brunette with long, bushy locks and this unkempt style doesn’t really change much until her fourth year at Hogwarts, when she gets it cut slightly shorter and more cleaned up.
To get Hermione’s hair for yourself, you can either dye and style your own hair or wear a brown wig.
Check out online websites, local Halloween stores and cosplay shops for a good wig, and purchase a rubber wig cap to wear underneath it. If you’d prefer to dye your hair, you can purchase brown dye at most drugstores and beauty salons.
Makeup:
Hermione has never really been much of a makeup fan, but she does wear simple black eyeliner and rosy pink lip gloss, both of which you can purchase online from cosmetics websites.
Outfit:
As a dedicated student, she is often seen wearing her Hogwarts school uniform. Similar to the style of most British school uniforms for girls, it consists of a white blouse, dark charcoal-gray pleated skirt, a red-and-yellow striped necktie, a black cable-knit sweater with red and yellow accent stripes on it, black woolen pantyhose, black loafers and a black cloak lined with red fabric. The cloak is very long and has the Griffyndor school crest embroidered on it which she usually wears during outings off school grounds.
Accessories:
To add the finishing touches to your Hermione costume, you’ll need two things – a wand, and a stack of textbooks.
For Hermione’s wand, you can either purchase a replica wand online or from a costume shop, or make your own using a stick from outdoors and craft supplies such as acrylic paint, tweed and glitter.
For the books, you can use any titles you’d like, but remember that hardcover books can be heavy to lug around through the aisles of your convention or down the street as you trick-or-treat.
You can also purchase “book boxes” instead – book boxes are essentially wood or cardboard boxes designed to look exactly like real books complete with titles and covers, but inside they are hollow, allowing you to store items inside. This is a great option for stowing your candy or convention merchandise!
