In The Hunger Games books and film series adaptations, Katniss Everdeen is a young teenage girl living in the dystopic District 12 of Panem, an impoverished and politically sadistic future version of North America.
Katniss becomes a tribute in The Hunger Games, a yearly event in which kids from various districts are pitted against each other in a fight to the death.
Going in place of her little sister, Katniss is able to find friends in her mentor, Haymitch Abernathy, and her love interest and ally, Peeta Mellark. Katniss is a determined and resourceful character, and one who threatens to change the whole state of her world.

How to Dress Like Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games
Katniss has wispy dark brown hair down to her waist, however it normally appears somewhat shorter because she keeps it tied back in a thick, singular braid hanging over one shoulder. She also has wavy bangs which hang down both sides of her face.
You can style and dye your hair dark brown for a similar look, or you can wear a brown cosplay wig.
Katniss’s braid is somewhat unkempt and messy, so try teasing your braided hair lightly with a comb or hairbrush to create a more authentic appearance to your hairstyle.
In the films, Katniss wears mostly very dark black and brown clothing. This includes lightweight black stretch pants, a matching black shirt with a high rubber collar and plates of black body armor covering her chest, shoulders and knees.
See the items listed in our guide for close matches to Katniss’s attire in the films or you can use craft supplies to make your own body armor from scratch.
If you’re unable to find a black shirt with a high black collar, you can use a black long-sleeved turtleneck shirt as a substitute.
Katniss wears heavy black laced-up combat boots, which you can buy from most shoe stores and retail websites. She also carries a bow and arrow. She keeps her spare arrows in a satchel strapped to her back.
Katniss also has a plant book which has been in her family for years, telling about various plants that can be encountered in nature.
Finally, no Katniss Everdeen costume would be complete without Katniss’s gold Mockingjay pin. Given to her as a gift from her friend Madge Undersee, the pin features a Mockingjay bird in a hollow circle and throughout the books and films, it comes to represent rebellion against the cruelty and political restriction of Panem’s Capitol.
We’ve found a close replica of the Mockingjay pin you can buy to complete your Katniss cosplay costume.
