In West Philadelphia born and raised…The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Will Smith, starts off his story this way at the beginning of each episode of his 90’s sitcom. After getting mixed up in a fight, his mother sends him to live with his well-off, well-to do relatives. Full of spunk and wearing his fresh style, Will Smith navigates the culture shock that comes from being an average teenager among his hoity-toity, rich relatives.

Will Smith wears a lot of different outfits on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but many can immediately identify the outfit he wears in the opening sequence. He is very matchy-matchy, but with clear self-expression and style. His color pallete is mostly bright, fluorescent green and blue. He wears a flat-billed cap, a striped T-shirt, and some comfortable athletic shorts for the long taxi ride.

How to Dress Like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Head:

Will welcomes himself into Bel-Air wearing a fluorescent green and blue flat-billed cap. He wears it a little bit off to the side and with the bill pointing upwards for that extra bit of hip-ness. You can look for a cap like this online or check out a Lids store or wherever they might sell hats.

Shirt:

Will wears a large bright fluorescent green and lighter green (or maybe yellow?) striped T-shirt. You can purchase one like this online or you could find a fluorescent yellow shirt and then place large strips of horizontal pieces of tape on the front and then the back of the shirt and spray paint over it with fluorescent green. Once you remove the tape, you will have a striped shirt.

Pants:

The pants that Will wears look to be general athletic, elastic blue shorts. These can be found at a department store, or you may own a pair close to those requirements.

Shoes:

Will wears high basketball athletic shoes. You might look for something like Jordans and keep in mind the show was set in the early 90’s, so you could go to a thrift store and see if they have any for sale that are actually from that era. With his shoes, he wears matching fluorescent green socks that he pushes down a little, which can be found at a store or online.

Sunglasses:

Will has a pair of sunglasses that he keeps on a cord around his neck. General Ray-Band shaped glasses will work perfectly. You can buy a cheap pair at a department store along with the cord, or you can use a dark piece of string and just tie it to some sunglasses you have to give the impression of having a cord.
