Rose Quartz Costume: DIY Guide

In Steven Universe, the larger than life character Rose Quartz was once the leader of the Crystal Gems but that all changed when she became enchanted by Earth’s many wonders and saved the planet from an alien invasion. She later married a human named Greg Universe. They had a son, Steven, forcing Rose to give up her physical form which led Greg and Steven to believe she had died. Fortunately Rose Quartz’s legacy shined on through Steven who inherited her gemstone.

Nobody knows when Rose Quartz will return or if she ever will at all, but she was a strong fighter, leader and a very good-natured person who never gave up on the idea that all beings have the tremendous capacity to choose good over evil in their moral decisions.

How to Dress Like Rose Quartz

Hair:

Rose’s hair is bright pink, extremely puffy and long. It curls down in tubes reminiscent of an old-fashioned judge’s wig. You can get this look yourself either by dying your hair pink and curling it with hot rollers, or buying a curly pink wig. Keep the curls in place with some glitter hairspray to give your style that extra gemstone shine!

Outfit:

Rose usually wears a puffy pink or white strapless dress consisting of multiple layers of sheer fabric similar to a prom dress. You can buy a dress like the one listed above or design and create your own dress using any fabric you wish. There’s also a cut-out part of the dress shaped like a star in the front where a quartz gemstone is attached to her body. You can get this effect yourself by cutting out a star from your dress and then using a metallic pink makeup pencil to draw the quartz stone.

Makeup and Accessories:

Rose has very defined lips which are painted pale pink. She carries a pink glowing sword and pink shield when she’s in fight mode. You can buy a fake sword and shield for this costume or use household materials to create your very own! Use paint, plastic and glitter to recreate the look as best you can and you’ll have a Rose Quartz costume that’s entirely your own.

Her shield also has a turquoise border around it. To get the look of Rose’s heavy lips, wear foundation on your face and then trace your lips with a light pink makeup pencil around the outside. Fill this in with a slightly darker pink lipstick and then apply clear gloss. Allow it to dry or wear setting spray if you’re planning on going out. Get your friends to come with you and dress up as other characters from the show, and you’re sure to have a blast.
